As though they were still on the road to Grandma Frances' house, stuck in the back bench seat between a bunch of bullying databases and a self-absorbed older web server, FeedBurner's feature set sometimes wants to cry out, "will you stop touching me!" Alas, we continue to fuss over our constantly evolving publisher-driven offering — it can always get better. We'll call this latest round of improvements "featurettes" since they are mostly enhancements to the existing services you know and seem to like. Here is the rundown:

PingShot, now even more Ping-tacular
Last Thursday, Google launched a ping server in support of their blog search, and our busy engineers wasted no time incorporating it into our PingShot notification service. For those of you who were napping during PingShot class, here's a quick refresher. If you want ensure that Google Blog Search is indexing your content in real-time, activate the free PingShot service with a few simple clicks.

A few more recently-added PingShot-able services include Blogblogs, a search engine and social media platform for Brazilian blogs which is getting a bit of buzz as well as FeedBlitz, the email service. To activate and customize PingShot to your liking, just log in, select your feed, go to the "Publicize" tab and click the "PingShot" link in the left column.

Purpose and Responsibilities

Gang,

It has come to my attention that one of two things is happening:
either
1. noone is following the rules of membership on this site and subscribing to every blog's feedburner feed
or
2. noone is opening the program/site they subscribed to those sites with

Sam Crowley had me looking at his feedburner feed for him to turn on his PingShot (do that now if you haven't already), and while I was in there I realized that noone except me had subscribed to his feed.

Folks there is a subscribe button on each posting for a new blog on this blog. This blog's purpose is to use the numbers involved in blogging with AC for each and everyone's common good. That happens when everyone listed on this blog follows the instructions and clicks that subscribe button for each and every blog listed on this blog.

Now, I can imagine that someone might not know what it means to subscribe to someone else's blog and therefore they have let fear keep them imobilized, but come on gang this is a list of positive Christian entrepreneurial men and women whom I am proud to call my friends. If you cannot subscribe to their blogs, whose can you subscribe to.

If you honestly don't know how to do this, comment on this posting and we will have a simple call to answer any questions about this.

VERY IMPORTANT: Once you have subscribed to every blog on this blog with say Google Reader, then you need to open google reader once every day. Don't worry about reading it if you don't have time, but open it so that feedburner counts you as a reader of each of these blogs.

If you don't like having to open these blogs in a reader, we can have a session where I teach everyone how to add an email subscription form to each blog so that will make it easier to subscribe to each blog. Again, comment on this posting if that is something you'd like to have.

Feedburner Critical Function: Publicize :: PingShot

You must turn on this function in your feedburner feed:

PingShot

Most web-based feed reading services will check for updates on their own time. Give 'em a push with PingShot. Choose the services you want to ping, and we'll notify them when you publish new content

If you haven't then you are not getting the results you want.

How about that call tonight.  That really challenged me.  I have been moderately successful, but tonight's call got me disgusted with my moderation.

It would be a blessing to everyone on acblogroll.blogspot.com if you added each blog on acblogroll.blogspot.com to a new "reader" once a week.  Am I doing that faithfully?  Not yet.  Is it busy work?  Sure.  If we want to bless each other in this way though, here's how:
1. first week, subscribe to every one's blog with google reader
2. next week, subscribe with my.yahoo.com
3. next week, subscribe with another "reader"
...

But, if we all just made sure that we were subscribed to all of the blogs on acblogroll.blogspot.com all of the time and opened our reader of choice at least once a day, then the reader will go out and read those blogs for us and thus drive up their popularity.  If we all were doing this and writing at least one article a day like what you learned from the call tonight that you want to apply in your business or other things, but if we were consistent about it.  It will go a long way to our natural search results.

But, the number one best thing you can do for your business is hand out a card at the gas station or grocery store or at lunch... and say "we will be filling two positons in 10 days and you seem like you'd be perfect, will you commit to going through the 3 simple steps because we are going to fill those positions in those 10 days?

The ad restrictions for being listed on Ac Blog Roll are:
1. no adsense
2. your adwords-like ad to your AC site OK!
3. No links on the sidebar to other income opportunities.

If you find someone doing that, let me know and I will kindly ask them to remove them or be removed from acblogroll.blogspot.com .  That is only fair.

Dave, thanks for asking this question.  I am replying so that everyone can see and learn from this question.

First, get rid of adsense.  It will only hurt the return on your own ad. 
Your Ad looks great.  It would be great if you could change the html for it to:

In your posts you use red to highlight and it is very hard to read.  I would bold or highlight with a yellow background instead.

Now, about the AC Blog Roll:
go to acblogroll.blogspot.com
Read the Purpose and Responsibilities statement and follow the instructions if you can agree to follow them.
That will mean that before you send me your information, you need to confirm that you click the subscribe link on each post for a fellow ACer's blog and put it into Google Reader (my recommendation, but any reader consistantly which you can open easily daily).
Then send me the information for you blog in exactly the same format as that of the other ACer's blog posts.

Thanks for the interaction and for this question.  I am answering this on the blog for everyone else who is asking the same question.

Here's what you do:

1. On the right are the archives links.  The posts are archived by month.  So you would select the oldest month April 2006 ( http://acblogroll.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_acblogroll_archive.html) .
2. Then, go all the way to the bottom of that page and start at the bottom.
3. In each post that contains a blog you will find a link like subscribe , this is the easiest way to subscribe to each feed.
4. Click that subscribe link, then when that page comes up chose either "Google Personalized Homepage" or "Google Reader".  If you don't know what you want to chose, then chose "Google Reader".
   
   Right Here I want to note that you can and might want to consider subscribing several different ways.  One other option, you can click the feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/crusaderx link on each blog post and try adding it to your Yahoo and your myaol.  The other and possibly the best way to subscribe to most of these feeds is to click on the "view" link in each post and if they have an email subscription form on their blog like I do at http://crusaderx.blogspot.com .  Why is that true?  Because then you will get each post in email and don't have to learn how to use a reader like http://reader.google.com .
5. Then go back to the archive page you were on and subscribe to the next up the page.
6. Continue up the page until you have subscribed to all of these, then click on the next archive month like May 2006 and continue until you have subscribed to all of them.
7. Then, if you aren't subscribed to AC BlogRoll, subscribe to this by email on the form on the right so that you can be informed of the new blogs as they are posted here and you will be able to click on the subscribe links in the email and stay caught up easily.

Chere, I hope that helps.  If not, please write back and I will post answers.  Again, I appreciate your question.

Everyone getting this needs to do this.  If you think you might have done this already, do it again just to be sure since it wont hurt and will only help if you do.

How AC Blog Roll Works

As a member of AC Blog Roll, we all agreed to subscribe to every blog listed using the subscribe button on the listings or using the feedburner feeds.

Has your subscribership increased only to decrease later? To keep a readership you have to have new stuff regularly. If you haven't posted in more than say a week, the feedburner subscriber counter cannot register anyone as having accessed the feed since it isn't presenting any new articles because you haven't put anything new on the blog.

So, put a new article in there once a week at the least.

Now, don't forget to use your feedburner.com feed as a link on your blog page so that when people want to subscribe they use feedburner too and that way if you get non AC subscribers you will at least see their count show up as well.

Also, consider using the email subscription form from feedburner so that you can tell who is subscribed to that portion. There is no way you can or should limit all subscriptions to email.

Remember to subscribe to all of the blogs on this feed as they come in and encourage your AC friends and group to blog too and join the AC Blog Roll. That way we can increase our blogs' popularity and get more non-AC subscribers or viewers at least.

I continue to have subscribers from my blog. I hope that encourages you.

The AC Blog Roller

Are you opening your blog subscription reader every day?

Those whose blog(s) is/are listed on acblogroll need to consider if they have opened (not neccessarily read every post on) their blog subscription reader of choice. If your blog is listed here, then you agreed to subscribe to all blogs previously and hereafter added to acblogroll. Now, go the next step and just open the blog subscription reader you chose to use each and every day. The easiest way to do this is to use google personalized home page as your reader by clicking the subscribe button of each blog listed here and choose google personalize home page. Then when they are all subscribe to that page, you can make http://www.google.com/ig your home page for your browser and then every time you open a new browser it will open that page.

I am getting a good number of leads from people who have been to my blog signing up for my autoresponder. I hope and pray that is happening for you as well.

The key to success in this is to patiently and consistently post to it. The next step is to comment on other people's blog posts with your url for your blog in the comment and also putting it on your linkedin.com profile and other online profiles like ryze.com, etc. If you get a linkedin profile, connect to me.
